A Red Robin by Daniel Brinsmead - Intermediate
A Red Robin is a simple, folk-like ballad. It was composed in 2016 upon returning to my hometown of Albury, Australia, after two years of studying a Master of Music in Cardiff, United Kingdom.
This was a time of upheaval; farewelling dear friends, reflecting on my time away and beginning a new chapter in Australia. The themes of the text speak of nature, resilience and renewal. My intent for the composition was that it be melodic, empowering and inherently singable. The line “a red, red robin” is an homage to Robert Burns’ 1794 Scottish song, A Red, Red Rose. The robin has been associated with new beginnings, wisdom, clarity and even the divine. In A Red Robin the robin sings all year round, in both the prosperous spring-time and in the bleak winter landscape. An ever-present guide that represents a passionate and resilient flame within each of us — a strength that helps us weather every season of life. I hope choirs and audiences enjoy this offering and its perennial message about empowerment and the joy of song. Purchase Here Choral Catalogue Sheet Music Home |
